Running Man : My New Addiction & How It Changed My Perspective on K-Pop
12:06 AM
Hello ! :D When I decided to give blog a try I told myself that I must be consistent. A beginning is always hard. Err .. I'm just kind of moody, you know. When I start to like something I will give my all into it. Then weeks later I get bored easily and just leave it forever, never get back. Even Android games on my phone never last more than a month except Cookie Run that I ended up unistalling too. I'm that type of person who deletes everything as soon as I reach stage three. Now I'm trying my best to stay here and keep on thinking what to write next.*newbie's problem*. So happy that my second post is up! haha
Close friends of mine definitely know one thing about me, I'm not into K-Pop. I don't know, it's just never in my list of music-I-like. Period. Eh, I'm not spreading hatred in this post, ya. Before all these K-Pop fans who might be reading this start to bash and send me dead threats, please read first.
When I was around 14 years old I used to be a fan of Taiwanese boy groups, my favorites were Fahrenheit and 183 Club. Man, it's hilarious when I think about old days. That time they were just at the top of their popularity like, who wouldn't love all those good looking singers with great body shape? My teen soul couldn't resist it when they smiled and winked at me in the music videos! *LOL* I spent my pocket money buying magazines whenever they were in it which would cost higher than the normal price when it came along with a special booklet, CD or poster. I'd sit all day in front of the TV to watch Taiwanese dramas.
I managed to find these on Google to recall your memories. Were you once, a fan of theirs?

Everytime I bought magazines, there would be a special section of six or seven pages discussing Korean or Japanese music and film. I always skipped it. I had this thought in my head that they (Korean ones) were just a group of good looking guys dressing up nicely, dance and cannot sing. It was a mindset I built for years and years until it became a solid wall that separated me and K-Pop. I disliked them so much. It was the reason why I never watched Korean dramas. The way they spoke was weird in my ears. Clearly, I never knew anything Korean and never wanted to. It was never my cup of tea .... until last year.
2014 was a period when my brother turned out to be a crazy fanboy of Korean girl groups. Duh he had a lot of their MVs that he got from, I supposed, his friend. That friend was the one who injected him with Running Man virus. So one night my bro got home with 110 episodes of Running Man in his laptop, asking me if I wanted to watch it or not and told me how hilarious it was. From what I had heard, Korea had a crazy TV show and I thought it was probably this. I ended up watching the 1st episode out of curiosity just to see how crazy it would be. My first time ever watching something Korean. It literally cracked me up like, the more I watched, the more I laughed. (FYI, I hardly ever laughed watching Indonesian jokes on TV). I found it quite entertaining!!
As each of you already know, RM always invites some celebrities to guest in each episode. Love it or hate it, I had to watch K-pop idols appearing on it even though I disliked them, for the sake of Running Man. I truly wouldn't have known any of them if it wasn't for Running Man. Slowly, my perspective on K-pop slightly changed. I no longer think they cannot sing and plenty of them are pretty good (some aren't, just like in Indonesia). Despite having some Kim Jong Kook, Gary and HaHa songs in my phone, I declare that I'm not a fan of K-pop. There's a big difference between "liking" and "being a fan" and personally for me, being a "fan" means you dedicate yourself for someone, for their work. While I love them more as a team called Running Man and that makes me a fan of Running Man.
That's how Running Man has become my new addiction. Yay! It has also introduced me to the worth drooling over jajangmyeon and tteokbokki that I wish to eat at least once in my life right in Korea.
